I personally am of the mind set that if someone wishes to order an expensive fillet and then ask for katchup to down it with, or asks for meat to be well done almost to a charcoal state I am cool with it. Hell you want BBQ sauce for your mac and cheese or mayo for your broccoli so be it. I do not have to eat it and it is your taste buds after all. (before being called out as a hypocrite, yes I do have an issue with the over use of ranch dressing in the US).

Now I have heard the following before.
Salad bar - Oh that is disgusting, how can they have (bacon bits, cheese, boiled eggs) in the salad bar of all places.
Dinner table - How can you possibly put that in your body? Do you know what they do to that (insert meat topic)? By buying that (meat topic) you do know you are supporting the slaughter of thousands of helpless animals each day.
Placing order - Please bring out my meal on a different tray than any with meat on it. Make sure the cook/chef does not use same knives on my food as those used on meat.
The list goes on.
every single time i sit down to eat with non-vegetarien people or people i dont know very well, something gets said to the effect of 'why' or 'how can you' or 'what do you eat' etc. Some of it is more preachy than others.

Not using the same utensils as on meat is understandable. some people just dont like it. i see the point that youre in a public place and people should feel oppressed if theyre in the minority, but requesting a cook use different utensils isn't hurting anyone. you're paying the cook to make you food, so, him getting a clean knife shouldnt be a big deal. I dont do it personally when I'm out, but I do make sure I use clean utensils at home.

Trust me, its on both sides of the coin. If you dont believe me, go veggie for a month, and see what I'm talking about.
