His prices are WAY to LOW... Raise that shit, and charge something like $250-$300 for an unlimited year membership as an option as well.

Accept credit cards, toss the part time girl and get your daughter in their with your brother covering the entire day.

Alysha. Is the neighborhood something like Cheval or Avila?? Do the people have an interest in being tan and looking good.

In other words, make sure that the area is not all old people, or run down old houses.

No, we don't live in North Tampa... we live east of Tampa. It's in a middle class area... $150,000 homes or so. First time home buyers, younger people I would guess... But, I don't live near there, so I wouldn't know for sure. I live about 10 minutes from the store, but I like going there because it's on the way home from our office.

But, it's not old houses... the whole area is fairly new, and there are another 4 or 5 subdivisions going up as I type. There are "old" people everywhere in Florida, so I'm not sure about that, lol.

am i the only one who saw the $35 ? i mean a whole month here in holland thats a least $200 and a spray tan (saw some ads on the london tube too same price) bout $50, if you could increase pricing with some improvements, def the cred card machine some other cheap stuff, then 10k is a bargain.

im more worried bout the tanning beds though, a high tech bed here with music etc is more like 50k alone...

No, the beds are not that nice... but they're not held together with bungie cords either, lol. They are middle of the road units, probably $3-4,000 each when new.

I like falafel but shawarma is my favorite. If you open one of those or at least carry both items I am there

The most important questions are still un answered. I know the rent is $800 per month, but is this gross? Meaning there are no NNN costs in addition to this $800? Also you will def. want options in place because if you decide to do a power upgrade and then find out next year you are not able to stay then it was a waste. And let me tell you that you will def want to do a power upgrade. Any bed that is worth having will need a lot of power and the proper AC to cool it as well. Thus the need for additional power. Also set up an apiontment with the landlord and see if he will foot any upgrade costs if you sign a lease extension with him.

Reply next to each question in a quote and then we can make 100% sense out of it.

I know we have some of them but frankly having some would not make me feel good about going forward. As I said before it isn't the $10,000 investment that you need to worry about. It is if you will be able to cover all expenses and still have funds left over for profit. You could very easily be taking more money out of your pocket and I am sure that is not your goal.

2. How many years left?
3. Can you extend the lease? Is there an option(s) in place?
4. Try to speak to the strip center landlord too. Make sure the lease is still in good standing.
5. What is there currently in terms of power? Single Phase? 3 phase? Total amps?
6. How many tons of AC are there?
7. Do they use a computer system? If so what software do they run? Can you look at the database etc?
8. What kind of beds and booths?
9. How many hrs of tanning time on each unit.
10. any repairs made to any of the beds? List problems?
11. What inventory is there?
12. What is the gross per month for the last 3 years? 1-12months
13. How many total people in their database?
14. How many active people? Active meaning have tanned in the last 30-90 days.
15. How many daily tanners do they get each month? 1-12
16. What is their price structure like? (we want to see if we can raise it)
17. Hours of operation?
18. Tans broken down by hour. (we want to see if we are open durin important hours etc)

Lets do a little math.

Add up the usage hours = 2300 total hours.

At a max of $6 per session = $13,800 he could have grossed off then.

And thats not taking into consideration the unlimited users.

Unless he is selling lots of lotions, something does not add up

Definitely get those questions answered - I own one as well - have for a few years. Similar location and situation except the beds were better from the sounds of it. For expansion, you can always lease the beds and pay them off with the profit from having more traffic.

As for the topic at hand - Alysha, I'm not sure of your financial situation. However, I'd care to say $10k upfront isn't the biggest plunge you could take? Thus, if you lose, it won't financially cripple you. Meanwhile if the business succeeds, it could financially do wonders. When comparing both extremes, one heavily outweights the other. Worth the shit in my opinion. A small price paid, for a huge opportunity/big reward.

I dropped by a list of questions for him to answer for me over the weekend (thanks, Shuki!). I'll see what happens sometime next week. I did look at his packages and wrote them down... This is what he has now:
30 days - $35
50 days - $50
100 days - $85

1 visit - $6
10 visits - $40
15 visits - $50
These are good for one year.

He also does an "early bird" special, unlimited tanning from 9A-noon for $25 a month.

And, he does a buddy deal, 2 people signing up together for $60 for 30 days.

His hours are:
Mon from noon-9P.
Tues, Wed, and Thurs from 9A-9P.
Fri, Sat from 9A-7P.
Sun from noon-7P.

$10,000 is a pretty damn good deal. The key in tanning is selling lotions and EFT. Like porn you bill them every month. $20 month. but you can have them sign a contract. and get them for a year.

Then its nice to have a high end orbit type bed. So you can upsell them. And mystic tan is a good addition to avoid the extra electric. Good luck.
