Any legalities arising from words on a message forum would be a civil case. You would receive a verdict in your favor only if you could prove loses directly as a result of the offender. Other than that the only real remedy in most jurisdictions is a restraining order should one party take it RL.

I know a CEO of an online auction company personally...he was very successful in getting people on message boards to stop "libeling" hiim and his company.
It got to a point that auctionwatch.com banned his name, and his sites name and any mention of it on their boards.
