if you can't get xbox live you should goto your local GAME STOP they sell something called XCONNECT it's an alternative to XBOX live and it's a one time fee of $50 for the unit

i'm not sure how to use it but i hear it's good it doesn't work on the xbox live servers though so i'm not sure how many users and shit are on their network...

Do you know if this thing lets you play with modded xbox? Xbox live won't let you and they'll lock your account (they ban your MAC address from the network card i think) so you can never play online with that xbox again..

i've heard thats what happens but i'm not sure if it allows you to, it might i know a couple of people who have it but their xbox isn't modded i'll do some reading around see what i can dig up on the topic ;)
