This is actually exactly what happened...I have a nice APC UPS, and when me and the GF moved into this place (apartment), I plugged everything in and the UPS (it's hers) wouldn't stop buzzing, and the faulty wiring light was on. I just figured that maybe it got dropped or just crapped out. Now, years later I know why it was buzzing.

heh, I think I would have tried to hold the apartment complex responsible. That place should have been wired by a professional, someone didnt know what they were doing. Man, that sucks.
