so usenethost lets them spam their shit in return for a link to sell their access .. heh. clever little circle jerk to get traffic
I understand what you're saying. but those that submit their content to the newgroups already know that a high percentage of those are never going to buy anyway. It's no different than that sponsor giving the TGP owners FHGs etc., it's even worse there because the surfer isn't even paying for the access, it's all free. Yet they all continue to supply the content and use that marketing technique because some percentage will actually whip out their credit card, just as some from the newgroups will. I suspect that the conversion rate on the newsgroup traffic is a hell of a lot better than the FHG traffic though.

As for the guy that puts that link in there.. Well I guess I don't see that as much different than all the TGP owners skimming traffic away from the galleries to other sites etc. or charging for advertising on the site. They're using the sponsors content to make them money and the sponsor is only getting a very small share of it. Which sponsor is it that won't let you skim traffic away from their FHGs? There's 1 right?

I would say that the big programs don't seed newsgroups with images because it's a much smaller source of traffic than getting your FHGs onto the big TGP sites etc. Not because they don't want their content there, it's just not worth the hassle for them.

What exactly are we discussing here.. Whether programs should use the newsgroups as a source of traffic?
