Definitely look to Consumer Reports for reviews. Good Housekeeping also reviews beds.
There are some unique constructions out there for sure.
Simmons uses pocketed coils that are glued together. I have no direct experience with these but I've heard that once the glue that holds the fabric pockets together comes undone the bed isn't very comfortable.
Coil count is also misleading. A bed may have a very high coil count but it may be made from very thin guage wire and essentially not very durable.
Memory foam is a nice padding for atop a good traditional mattress, but it may not have the longevity alone that a traditional innerspring mattress has.
Foam traditionally breaks down in the air. It will get dry and brittle over time.
If you don't plan on keeping your bed for the next 20 to 30 years it may be okay to be a bit experimental.
