Mattresses are mostly marketing. No matter what you buy you're getting roughly the same innerspring unit with various levels of toppings and tickings.

I'm not sold on memory foam, air or water as alternatives for myself, however, to each their own. You have to sleep in the thing, so get what you like. You're going to overpay for your bed no matter what you get. They are among the most marked up of all furniture/home furnishings.

The wholesale raw cost on a $3000 queen bed may only be $300.

Perceived value plays a large part of the retail sales process.
