Before Spielberg made the Oscar-winning "Schindler's List" in 1993, not too many people in the world had heard of him -- except of course for the 1,200 refugees he saved from slaughter in the concentration camp, and their children, and their children's children.
It's quite the true story:

It's also quite the film.
I think what I appreciated most about the film was that it presented an image of heroism and courage under fire so much more relatable to common, work-a-day folk than the grandly polarized white-hat/black-hat stories that usually come out of Hollywood. As in life, the picture you see of the truth is ifnfluenced by who YOU are and by what perspective WHO you are brings on the facts. Schindler was a Nazi -- one of them. Or, at least he chose to carry the card for whatever reasons of his own -- business, personal, etc. But, at some point what he decided was "evil" became unberable. He was motivated by conscience and the pursuit of right. You would think, if he had been brought in to some Unter-Fuhrer's office for questioning on his activities that he would have lied or otherwise concealed the truth. But, FOOL, he did not. Such is the nature of "morality" -- when you are infected by it, you think all men must hear reason and that all reasonbale men will acknowledge what is right. But who can say. It may or may not matter to you that Nazi Germany fell soon after all this happened and that Hitler has been "distinguished" as one of the most abhorrent persons to ever walk the earth. It may be that, for all our striving to comprehend the nature of ourselves, and for all the comfort of believing in an absolute morality... that there simply isn't one. History is written by the winners, as they say...

I have heard that gatherings of the families of the people he saved are extraordinary --
