As such, they've announced they'll soon be offering free ad-laden webmail to help them better compete in the space. The move to open up AOL content to the unwashed masses is an admission that their "revolutionary" 2002 plan (to wall up content and sell to BYOA broadband users only) wasn't a very good one."
