Carrier's go much faster than anyone may think. And turn's like that are a good way for the Captain to make sure the crew has "secured for sea!"

I spent a long time on ships, and thats a pretty steep turn, but I've been through one before. Basically, everything that isn't bolted down goes flying, but the boat stays afloat.
I remember, after going through that turn, for the next 2 weeks or so, I'd see people walking around with t-shirts on which was printed : "I survived The Manoeuvre!" lol, it was pretty funnyskype: lordofthecameltoeComment

Every aircraft carrier goes through 4 days of "sea trials" before its declared certified by the US Navy. Usually about 500 engineers from the builder are on board with the crew to put the ship through its paces and find any defects or malfunctions.
That is a real pic when they are putting it through hard to port and hard to starboard high speed turns.
