Can a host keep a domain from switching hosts?

I have a domain and I am trying to forward it over to another host, but it will not switch. I triple and quadruple checked everything but for somereason the domain will not move over. What is wrong or any suggestions? Thanks...

Why are you doing anything with the host? DNS gets changed at your registrar.

You may need to contact them and request that they release the domain..

Just give it some time, it can take up to 36 hours for the change to propagate fully, in the meanwhile the site will resolve to the old machine for some people and the new one for others.

If you wanna make sure everything works correctly go to your windowns folder (if you are running windows) then system32/drivers/etc

edit the file called "hosts" and add the new data in the following format

                    123.MY.NEW.1P mydomain.com

                    save, reboot
I sale fu-fme, hit me up for a killer deal!

yeah, I changed them but it is taking an unusually long time, and there is something bizarre on the page that I did not put there... The old host that it sat with is a cancelled account.

Usually, it only takes a few minutes and this has been a couple days. Yes, I changed the DNS.

You can set the domains TTL (time to live) for faster transfers

Also try running in your command line "ipconfig /flushdns" for fresh DNS results from your ISP

are you sure you are not just seeing a cached version from your ISP? Perhaps have someone else test it for you or modify your HOSTS file.

Switching nameservers should do it for you.

true, but I doubt harmon has a bank balance even close to either of those...

My pleasure . . . I have dealt with the issue enough times to readily recognize it.
