I know what you mean. The last time I had surgery was when I shattered my ankle and they had to go in to reconstruct it. I had been on Vicodin since the night I shattered it and the Vicodin didn't seem to do a damn thing for the pain. But when I got to the Hospital they gave me a "Demerol Cocktail" about 30 mins before the operation. As they were moving me to the O.R. I remember telling the Anisthesiologist that I didn't feel any different and I didn't think the injection was working, to which he replied "you will". The last thing I remember was being wheeled into the Operating Room and telling one of the doctors something along the lines of "Oooooooooo, what pretty lights", he laughed and told me to count back from 100...... I don't think I made it to 99

They gave me a smaller Demerol shot when I had to get out of bed and try to walk on the crutches for the first time; I went from pain to paradise in about 5 minutes.
