Only one thing works and its constant new content and pretty much if you are not a niche site you will never have true retention

I do run a niche site ... sooo ..

but that's almost beside the point of what im talkin about. Look at some of the huge sites such as TheHun of course, Thumbzilla, and most of the other really big tgp's ... they aren't niche-specific, but they get so many fuckin' return visitors every day.

I think that the Hun's "Send me mail, here's my address" thing at the top of the page is the kind of small innovation that increases surfer retention just because it's so different and personal.

Of course there's the obvious such as keeping the content fresh, but I'm talking about different and alternative ideas that can have significant impact.

We let members order custom videos and galleries. Demand is very good and they pay big to have their own custom content.

Their videos are made available on the web (their personal start pages) and DVD.
