I think he's talking about being broke and not being able to afford proper health care for sick loved ones or loosing them to shoddy health care.
or not having enough money to handle your bills
or not having enough money to pay the IRS and they put a lien on your house or bank account and are not able to pay for your family's basic needs
or not having enough money to bail out a friend or family member from jail (let's presuppose that they are actually innnocent)
or not have enough money for a proper defense in our 'not so blind' justice system...(think OJ would be free today if he didn't have a bank roll ?)

there are 100s of instances where money can make a significant impact on your life
HOWEVER, you are right, there are people in the world that are happy and are dirt poor, now if we can find a way to stick that in a bottle and SELL IT, life would be grand (insert irony here)
