Most just go to the states for private health care, which the government can cover (ie gastric bypass surgery) if the wait is too long for the patient.

I dunno.. if my loved ones were needing an operation I'd want capitalism behind it. Perhaps I'm just messed up in the head, but money is what makes the world go 'round. I want an expensive experienced surgeon doing their thing, not someone willing to work for pennies on the dollar by doing public healthcare. Same reason people here go and pay good money to see a doc, even when there are free clinics available.
