This is so not the case. I know plenty of people that are very happy and yet have very modest incomes and lifestyles. And I know plenty, in fact many wealthy people who are fucking miserable as hell with their lives and all their money.
It might be a different kind of suffering, but I assure you money will eventually be the cause of suffering in your life. It never fails.
