"Don't let your children see the images, especially on Sept. 11, when you know it'll probably be on television again and again -- the plane hitting the building or the buildings falling," Mrs. Bush said in an interview Friday.

those images have been on our televisions a fucking year straight for fuck's sake...why is Laura Bush suddenly concerned now?

what is the sense of memoralizing something we've been already mourning for the last 12 months? It takes anything "special" that might come out of it away....

I understand if people want to pay respects in their own ways, but I really don't care to see another 18 straight hours of it...

So, not only won't my kids be watching it, I won't...I'm going to Blockbuster and rent a bunch of videos...

I think it all depends on the age of your kids. I listen to a lot of NY radio, and I got the impression a lot of Ney Yorkers feel the same way. Those stories are not really going to help anyone that has serious loss. Broadcasting stuff like that will only make those people more mad. Couldn't agree more. Who cares where I (or any celebrity skank) was, watching the news on CNN.

On th eother hand, I heard the chief fireman say yesterday that he thinks it is a good thing it is being shown every now and then, to keep the US alert.

When is the last time YOU heard about the 93 WTC bombing? Probably not much prior to 9/11.

First off, I havent watched Television since the Laker Finals, and post often enough about certain means of media, that regualars here might know.

As for your "control" comment, yeah.

I would say any man who sits in front of the TV on Sept 11th and watches rerun footage is surely under control.

Not to mention, if one makes their kids watch it as well, they are controlling them.

Its not hard to see.

I think some of us are starting to argue different things. I didn't say that I had any interest in watching
9-11 events/memorials/etc myself. I have no interest only because the scenes are firmly etched in my mind and I don't think i would gain anything from watching them (Maybe I'm wrong. Just a guess).

What I do take issue is with Mrs. Bush's statement
"Don't let your children see the images". If my daughter wants to watch these memorial services or whatever else is on she can. That is her choice. I'll even give her the big TV to watch it on if it's important to her. Doesn't matter to me.

I mean, it's like saying "Government Conspiracy". It's kinda meaningless. Maybe in that case people mean "a conspiracy of 4 or 5 individuals".

Same with the CNN thing. It is a huge multi-armed beast. So many reporters and people having to make on the fly decisions that all kinds of stuff comes to be. So some reporter is live on a scene and reporting with their words, their thoughts, and their senses and damn, some of THEM care. Hell, some might even care more about people more than any of the various media awards. I HAVE heard people profess such things.

I personally don't buy into the Synecdoche-like viewpoint, the personalization of some corporate structure or entity. I think it leads to meaningless statements. So when you say "somehow I think you knew this", yes I do know what you are saying but I don't know what you mean.

Shit I'm gonna chill on Wednesday, cause we will probably get off work early that day. We have a candle vigil that morning. Most women in my office will be bitching and complaining that everyone else is leaving early. I'll probably get alot of shopping done, since everyone will be scared to leave their freakin house. Then I'll go home and watch a few movies, and chill, go to sleep and work again on Thursday.
