How do I trap am email spammer

Umm, filter it out and go on with your life? Seriously, tracking these people down is too much work. Spam is less annoying and more preventable than postal junk mail.

Use a different mail for everything you do, only way to cut down on spam.

Im pissed off - I never email spammed - (granted I shoved loads of pages to SEs) but I'd never mail spam and destroy someones mailbox.

It's just spam ... seriously ... shut off the PC for 15 mins and then come back and read how ridiculous your posts sounds .... if it was that easy to track them down and put a stop to it .. it would be done ..

I wish more guys rat out the programs that either spam you themselves or sell their lists.

People have before, it doesn't change anything. Everyone forgets about it once people post stupid ass sig whore threads. Just try your best to ignore it.

Your particular spams look like the work of one of the worlds most renowned spammers, Robert Soloway. Somehow, he has programs running through the backbone that records addresses (new and old), a lot of people think. Microsoft has already successfully sued him but I seriously doubt they will ever see a penny, he's said so himself. The best thing to do about these spammers is report them to authorities.

I have a few snail mail adress's i prob get 1 or 2 a week ( flyers etc )

I have a few email address's that are several years old that get approx 100-200 per day a piece hmm you do the math..

you must not live in a large city. i get 4-5 daily at least. mostly from pizza and chinese food places. i don't mind it really. what bugs me are these guys who keep coming back to my door time and time again different guys, same sales pitch. they always want to see my damn gas/hydro bill. i don't want your shit, i don't care if i can save money. leave me alone...but they always come back... up to several times a week.

anyways, that has little to do with this but yeah. i was used to get 300 spams a day due to idiots using generated lists but ever since i installed spam assassin im down to like 5-10.

there may be laws , but in all serious , spam laws are like putting windscreen wipers on a submarine .... the amount of time and man power required to track the spammer down and lay charges just isn't worth it

It's easy: Just use a different email address for every affiliate program, hosting account, forum account... That way you can easily block spam and identify the spammer. This way I've been able to identify several spamming sponsors such as CJBucks, Wild West Cash, AdultPlayersClub,...

Added bonus: In addition to be able to block spam more effectively, you can also identify sponsors you cannot trust. Ask yourself the question: "If a sponsors send me spam or sells my details to spammers, why should I believe for 1 second that the sponsor isn't shaving?"

And the big difference is.. The USPS loves junk mail... it's their bread & butter.. especially since the onset of email, which cut their stamp sales tremendously..

If you notice a lack of concern for your problem , and comments like, "crybaby" or "just hit the delete key", you must understand that the majority of people here are spammers, have used spammers for traffic, or have some links to spam support services. Ethical and honest webmasters are a bit of a minority group on GFY. Legal mailers are an even smaller minority.

Offers of illegal proxies, pirated mailing software, access to botnets(zombied machines), stolen lists, and hosting services that offer bulletproof servers(ignore complaints, spoofed Ip's) are common on this board. A "popular" webhost that is a major GFY advertiser currently supports FOUR ROKSO spammers.

I have a solution that is not perfect. I use a free product called SPAMPAL that is a two stage filter... it uses RBL's(that block by determining WHERE Spam is coming from) and a REGEX filter that uses keywords and pattern recognition. The REGEX filter is editable. Like you, I want a lot of the stuff from Adult sites (like TGP confirmations), so I modified the filter NOT to use sexually oriented keywords and stuff. It works pretty well but you do have to scan your SPAM folder and some crappola does slip through. The program does have powerful whitelisting and blacklisting features.

Another solution is a paid service like SpamArrest where the sender has to verify he is a "real person" by entering a code the FIRST time he sends to you which lets the mail pass through. This is effective, but you are going to lose some mail.... especailly any sort of automated response like TGP confirmations.

As for reporting spammers, I routinely use Spamcop.Net, but pretty much don't have the time to track down individuals unless they are particularly obnoxious.... then I will try to get them and their hosts on EVERY RBL I can. No sense complaining to a webhost or a sponsor if they are PARTNERS with the SPAMMER.....

Spam can be filtered out, whereas the postman is going to deliver loads of junk mail whether you like it or not.
