Vietnam had been invaded regularly for the past 1000 years. In that sense, they became, ideologically, some of the toughest little motherfuckers on the earth. But hey, when it comes to culture, we can cure anything. Instead of dropping 500 pounds of bomb tonnage for every man, woman, and child, and killing 1-2m people just to say we won, we should have dropped televisions. It would have been cheaper.
America has recovered from economic problems before.
Counting on a war to solve them with desperate productivity and the influx of a hidden workforce is a pathetic case of living in the past. World War II will not happen again. Ubiquitous nuclear weapons changed all that.
