Has anyone tried this anti-anti-pop-up script?

I was reading this pop-up ad article on Wired today:

In the article, they mention this script:

I guess it's supposed to block anyone using anti-pop-up or banner-killer software from viewing your site. They say they are putting out a new script that will also block people using anti-cookie scripts too.

Would you run a script to block people blocking your ads? If someone is blocking banners and sponsor text links, it might be worth considering blocking them because they are using bandwidth without helping to pay for that bandwidth. Then again, I could see this pissing some people off.

Anyone try this script yet or think it will go anywhere?

what ever happened to doing business without the bullshit

all these wankers complaining about surfers fighting against spam, pop-ups and automatic bookmarking probably have a "No Junkmail" sticker on their letterbox

Some of the ad killer programs available will kill banners as well as sponsor text links. If you run a site that is funded by advertising, then how exactly are you supposed to pay the bills if your visitors are blocking all of your advertising, but still enjoying the content on your site?

I'm not big on pop-ups, but if someone is blocking banners and text sponsor links, then wouldn't it be fair to send them packing? It's not too much to ask that they see the banners and text ads, even if they choose not to click on them, is it?

if you had the option of seing banners or not seeing banners when you are one of those who NEVER click on one and you find them to enoying because they falsh and blink and take too long to load, what would you do

do you talk to telemarketers, read junk mail, sit through the tv adds and piss during the movie ???

That's all good, but then as a webmaster, don't you think it might be worth at least considering blocking these type of surfers?

The even bigger question is, if enough sites were to block people who blocked advertising, could you make a dent in the number of people adopting these anti advertising programs?

If Yahoo, Google, The Hun, World Sex, and AOL were to start blocking people who blocked advertising, then either those people would have to go to other sites, or they would have to turn off ad blocking. It stands to reason that a certain number of them would turn off ad blockers if they wanted to access certain content.

This may not be that important of a question right this second, but as the web matures and these programs become more and more popular, something may have to be done. The web cannot exist as it does today without advertising dollars.

i know what you mean and are getting at... i'm not stupid... but it would also filter out a lot of useless crap that's floating around

plus, as advertising dollars drop, site owners could finally start charging surfers who use their services

if you want to place your personal add with yahoo "match.com" you should pay for it like you would with any other dating service

this would increase the cash flow into the internet industry 1000 fold because now you're not figting over the limited advertiser dollar but you have the chance to target the entire world of users

advertising is good and necessary but when it comes to the internet it has killed free enterprise

I really don't see how they could block text links.. Perhaps text links generated by javascript on the client's side, but that'd be about it.

I've read a couple articles/posts that said that the new generation ad busting software will block sponsor text links. You can even mark text links to specific sites (say Amazon, Silver Cash, OX Cash, or any other affiliate) as advertisement, and then those links will never show again on any web page you visit. I believe they come pre-installed with a list of sponsor text links that are blocked by default. I haven't tested the programs myself, but I have read about them.

This is gonna be interesting - if these programs intercept a web page, remove banners/ads/textlinks etc and then present them to the surfer and don't have the webmasters permission to remove the ads, aren't they guilty of some form of copyright violation? Didn't Gator get sued for this?
