Wilt was able to do it because he was a big man who they could just feed everytime. When you need to rely on taking it to the hole and your jumper 100 would be rediculously hard. But then again, i never thought he could do 80 either
Weird part is...as much as I dislike today's game and Kobe, when Wilt scored 100, the lowest scoring team in the NBA averaged 110.9 points per game so the game itself was high scoring. What Kobe did was pretty good considering last year the lowest scoring team averaged 99.2.
It would be alot tougher for Kobe to hit the 100 so if he did, it would probably be a bigger feat.

Not true. Depends on the player. If that were the case, every center in the league would be leading their team in scoring.
For me, in pickup games, I could score alot more shooting outside than if I did inside.
There's no way Wilt would be able to do today what he did back then...Players now are much more athletic and generally bigger and stronger...I'm not saying he wouldn't be a great player, but i seriously doubt he'd average over 22 rebounds a game these days...same goes for Bill Russell. If the lowest scoring team during that era scored 110.9 per game, then you can imagine how good the defence was.
And during Wilt's day the concept of defense was actually taught. Kobe scored 80 against a lowly team. Can he do it against the likes of Detroit or San Antonio? Of course not, I'd like to see him get 30 against those teams. If you remember what NBA analysts were saying, with the new rule changes Jordan could have had 100 every night. The new hand checking rules that is, that came along with Kobe's generation. I don't think Kobe will ever score 100unless he hogs the ball all game long, which he does anyways..

You don't think Kobe can put up 30 points against San Antonio or Detroit?

In addition to the offensive hand check/reach around/push off, let's not forget the extra "traveling" step that Jordan made acceptable, which has served Kobe very well. That totally changed the game too.
I respect Kobe's skills and talent as an individual basketball player, but I think he really suffers as a team player and human being.

sounds like you were never the go to go on your squad..
anyway, the lakers suck, no one else is worthy of watching, especially that bum of a center from texas and the rest of their supporting cast of half wits and dingbats
I agree that they dont play defense, but anything past 60 points is embarrasing and Kobe should have been fouled very hard by the time he hit 70

First off, Ramos I was the starting PG for my high school and though I didn't score 30 pts a game I was the #2 go to guy. Secondly, WegCory you seem to know basketball, think back to the last two years. How did Kobe play against a stifling defense like Detroit's? I guess The 2004 NBA Finals isn't the best example because it was two years ago, but they gave him a thumping. You put Tayshaun Prince or Bruce Bowen on Kobe, and he's not going anywhere. If there was 1 word that separates Michael Jordan from Kobe Bryant, it would have to be "unstoppable". Although Kobe had 81 last night, put a good defender on him and he's gone. They tried that with MJ in the 90s and I don't think that worked too well..
Look if the Lakers make the playoffs, they'll most likely play either San Antonio or Dallas and Kobe can score 100 if he wants, they still won't win. I would have more respect for Kobe if he does what he does now AND makes his teammates better. Don't forget Michael Jordan made Kerr, Kukoc, BJ Armstrong, and Grant. Who has Kobe made?

They stomped Dallas already once. I know that a regular season game does not mean anything, but I would remove Dallas from your post. They are a choke team and Kobe can single-handidly route them.
He torches them often.

You're right, they stomped Dallas at home in a meaningless regular season game. If/When they play them or San Antonio or Phoenix w/Amare during the playoffs, I expect them to get swept, unless Kobe gets his teammates involved. It all starts and ends with Kobe..
If the Lakers had coordinated the effort going into the Raptors game, he would have broken 100. That's what it's going to take... a planned effort from the start.
My prediction is that they go for it before the end of this season. The Lakers need it because Kobe is all they've got, and the NBA needs it because this has been the most uneventful season in several years.
I have to admit, I was a diehard laker hater after my bulls dynasty ended but that's what made those 4-5 years so memorable. I LOVED basketball at that time because of the Lakers vs. Kings and Lakers vs. Mavericks classics. Those 5 seasons were amazing, and now that the lakers dynasty has crumbled it's still fun, but not as satisfying as those years, nor even close to the 90's.. But I love watching teams like Detroit play, because they symbolize perfect basketball.

Yes...pickup games are the same as the NBA
Wilt did it cuz he was bigger and badder than his opponents. That was an era where center's ruled the NBA. Now days people growing up care more about "looking good" than anything so you see much more people wanting to be showboating point guards.
A center is the only person that would ever have a chance at 100. But it would have to be a special scenario. Centers accross the league are much more evenly matched though now so i dont think it will happen
Is that in points, or in young blondes at the nearest hotel???
in san diego, I got in argument with a cabbie about this issue...he starts preaching to me how bad Kobe Bryant is and how he's a rapist. So, I let him go thru his whole speech and he finishes by saying some shit about OJ getting off too.
I told him that that Honky had 2 other mens semen in her and that either way she was a loose woman....guy got heated....

Kobe is one of the most talented asswipes ever. I see him getting close to it as he's just entering his prime and there are a lot of teams that just don't play D. I hate the fucker but it would be fun to watch
The bottom line is that Kobe doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself. That's why the Lakers haven't come anywhere close to a title since Shaq left.
Kobe has talent. So what? He squanders it, while alienating his teammates.
Let's face it - Toronto is at best a mediocre team.
In his 81 point game, Kobe had all of 3 assists as the point guard!
In a game the Lakers easily won by 18 points, Kobe scored most of his points in the 4th quarter, long after the game was already decided, and scored the last 23 points for the Lakers, mostly in an effort to make himself alone look good.
