but they are primarily search. They want it simple... get the surfer off their site asap while giving them what they came looking for.
Men.com being a portal, it will want visitors there as long as possible, so, it will need sticky content., not minimal like Google
SIG TOO SMALL! Maximum 1200x600 button and no more than 30 text lines of ALL SIZES and COLORS. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 6240x4800 instead of a 1024x800.
Originally posted by Triple 6 i didnt say they only did flash, neither did you, but you talk about a company thats pretty much only known for their flash designs, which is obviously the high priced crap you were quoting. $30k and 60k for minimal flash or static html? lolllll ok

Remember, I got those clues for sale, cheap.
"webmaster enterance"
I hope at least KRL gets designers that know how to spell - cant say the same for you tho.

In the future is the site going to contain some good writers so surfers will come back? seems now that the articles posted could are gentric and it is a 50/50 chance if the surfer will hit the back key or an ad. Either way, let me know.

Btw, I am not a writer.
We bought thousands of dollars of articles from writers but really weren't that impressed by what they turned in.
I'm telling you, most guys here do sites based on pictures. Try doing a magazine and you'll see how fun it is. NOT!
I have adult in the back pocket if this becomes too much of a headache, but we are getting advertisers and some of the other features we have upcoming can't have adult, so we're going to give them a shot and see what happens.
The one nice thing about a direct navigation domain is the free traffic flow never stops, so you have the luxury to experiment at minimal risk and cost.

It would be shames too use it for adult. I think there is much more opportunity/potential keeping it as a men?s portal/magazine, long term that is. I think in house writers/designers is the way too go with such a big project?..
However, even if its keep mainstream you?ll probably see most of your traffic going to you ?sex? pages?.you need a doctor sex, get someone exclusive.
Also, don?t forget about seo, askmen is huge with that?.
If you don?t mind me asking, what is/was your vision/goal for this project?
Originally posted by galleryseek I'd hate to see that happen. It'll work out
So far its going fine with the mainstream approach it just takes way longer than doing it adult style, and adds many more elements to the equation.
I need to find a way next to build in an extremely discreet navigation route to adult content on there without turning off the mainstream advertisers. Any ideas would be helpful.
One idea we had was to build it into the concierge club which is another feature we're still developing where only registered members will have access to those links.
Originally posted by KRL I personally liked Ray's 3rd one quite a bit.
we have differing tastes, that is the one i like the least. if I had to choose I'd pick the first one - although its pretty much a toss up between the 1st and 2nd.
Originally posted by KRL But you gotta admit that flash really gives sites that designer's edge.
Well, yes, but we all come to a point when we understand that its all eye candy. This is a highend site so some subtle flash effects would be good, but not if you have to sacrifice usability. Read "Dont make me think" by Steve Krug.

flash is a bit more difficult to manage in terms of content. and then there's that problem of SEO, although that is something that might not be a problem in the future.
Originally posted by KRL If there is one thing I've learned and this goes for myself as well its next to impossible to have a room of people look at a site and all agree they like the design.
When it comes to web sites everyone has their own likes and dislikes for color, spacing, buttons, flash, backgrounds, fonts, and on and on. There are so many elements and that is why you get such a variety of opinions.
The hardest thing so far for me has just been getting everyone on the teams to agree. Its a real challenge.
Actually old anarchy.com designs rocked

Direct Navigation. Come on has the Marchex announcement really changed what we call a typein now ?

they spend $$$ and usually are busy (eg. business men)... plus you can sell products like aveda, nivea and other toilette/skin care products...
one thing i see missing on the page is gadgets... guys like to see the latest pda or cell phone so they can show it off in the next boardroom meeting...
Good Shit.
KRL thanks for the chance and I'd love to enter but I'd say you go straight to the big boys for a design.

Which reminds me. KRL, you really should SEF (search engine friendly) your forums. Just my
