It happens, yes, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's "normal". As a matter of fact, I'd even say it's not. There is a lot of emotional and contraceptive responsibility that goes along with having sex. Most 13-14 year olds aren't prepared for that, on either count. If you're not old enough to get a job and support a kid, then you're not old enough to be having sex, imo.

Well it is wrong because of societies inability to prepare a child for the rigors of preparing their own children. Back in the 1700's kids worked at about 10 years and up. So after 3 years of working a kid might have a sense of what to do with their money and how to take care of themselves. If dad died a 13 year old could assume his role and rear his siblings while holding down a steady job.

Kids today can't even get to school without some kind of proding. They can't take care of their pets properly so rearing a child is pretty much out of the question. They are protected from everything and taught to fear normal social situations like saying hello to someone you don't know out of respect. The current state of society isn't because of more killers and criminals being out there, it is because of people like George Bush who put fear into everyones hearts. Think about it. Why do you need George Bush and not John Kerry? Because Bush made you affraid that Vietnam would happen all over again if you changed presidents during a war. And now you know why we are in IRAQ.

I agree in Bdjufs thread...5 individuals is a lot at the age of 14, for a boy or girl, but to each their own, no one can judge him/her until they actually know him/her and what she/he has experienced.

Actually, it is normal. A decade ago, 23% of 14 year olds and 30% of 15 year olds in the US had had sexual intercourse. [1] Since "normal" is typically defined by the behaviour of people, one must conclude that it is, in fact, normal. Whether it is wise or not is ofcourse a different matter.

I can't help but disagree with your statement that one should not have sex unless one is able to "get a job and support a kid". I'm 22, and like most of my friends I sure as hell am not ready to raise a kid yet. Does that mean I shouldn't be having sex? Or does it simply mean that I should be practicing safe sex?
The latter sounds like the more logical choice to me.

Now, what you seem to be arguing is that teens aren't able to handle the responsibility of contraception. But why not? With good education and guidance, it isn't exactly rocket science.

One has to be open to reality though... when I was 14 and had my first real girlfriend, my mother bought me my first pack of condoms, and in my teens I've dated and fucked many 13, 14 and 15 year old girls who, with their parents' knowledge, were on the pill. We never had any problems with pregnancies and stds and other icky stuff, because we knew what we should do and shouldn't do.
Kids aren't idiots. They just need the right information, and they'll be able to make the right choices. If parents deny reality though, and don't educate their kids, that's when shit goes wrong.

The country I live in is extremely open towards sex, yet has one of the lowest teen pregnancy rates in the world. Personally, I don't think that's a coincidence
