It seems to me that Rory is attempting to twist the terms of the deal and manipulate the phone conversation.
If you pay someone $2000 to do work, that $2000 then becomes the property of the person you gave it to. He is free to do with it as he chooses.
It would appear that another $3000 was due before any content was to be delivered. What happened to the $2000 is Aaron's business. Aaron was apparently never paid the rest of the contract. He therefore had no obligation to deliver any content.
