This is the smartest geo ip script i've seen yet. Good job man! It always usually says I live in Los Angelas, which is not true at all. But understand it gets that from the lookup and the fact that my cable connection hops directly to LA's nap :P

I think it will work for a while.
The same way using first names in spam worked for a while to get attention. Then people gradually learn to tune out. But use it now!

Thank you for the compliment there. I like to think that seeing things in a bigger perspective comes natural when your business roots are European and you're living in North America like I do. That's pretty cool. Probablly works wonders for dating site traffic and holiday sales - "we can ship to xxx before Dec 25th!" or "Looking for a guy in xxx for tonight"....

That makes sense though.

It's not the DB that's too specific - your IP is "owned" by your ISP in that suburb and that's what it shows - and the net end result would add up to more clicks by people in your area because of the familiarity with that suburb.

would it get MORE clicks if it showed your exact city? propably so, but there's nothing we can do to get more accurate in your case ... because based on the Db it's 100% accurate.

GeoMarketing can NEVER be 100% accurate ALL THE TIME.

There are a number of variables at play. The geo solution provider where you get your "database" from, who owns the IPs in what city (which ISP), whether or not you're surfing on proxies or AOL, etc.

We're looking at 70% - 80% accuracy with what we're providing presently.

That's HUGE when you takeinto consideration the following:

The fact of the matter is simply that surfers are somehow drawn to click when they see their city or something in their closely surrounding area ... THAT'S IT!

More clicks translates into more sales, yet again
