Why does platinum bucks only offer WMV?

I spent all fucking day making new templates to promote their sites and I got all ready to submit a gallery when I noticed all they supply is WMV.

Total bullshit because anybody who has a clue knows mpeg is the industy standard. WMV is fine for members sections to save on BW but its usless to webmasters.

If anybody can explain to me how I can convert WMV8/WMA9 to mpeg I would owe them HUGE!

i used to use asf tools im pretty sure it converted mmv to mpeg

Btw I only use .wmv on my sites. Most all the video streaming sites use .wmv too. Humor ones etc.

Both programs sucked balls.. the quality it generates is horrible and i can watch the movie faster than it takes to convert.

Platinum bucks just lost a 10sale /day webmaster. Not that they care but I am sure I am not the only one who is unable to promote them because of this bullshit.

I've never had much luck making good thumbs from WMV files either.. Makes your promotions look like crap and produces less sales..

exactly.. but i always grab my thumbs from the picture sets that match the movie. Most sponsors provide both pics and vids for each scene.

Something isnt right there then. I can do a 2 minute mpeg into a .wmv in about 20 seconds. .wmv is obviously going to make a loss of quality. It is more compressed. As a user Im the opposite I dont want a mpeg unless Im actually going to edit the footage. If Im just posting it for a surfer to view .wmv is preferred by me.

I had the same problem when using video charge for the first time. Just learn it on a small sample. Set the quality to normal and it will be done pretty fast. Also select a good output, best is the custom one, where you can set the same specifics as the original movie has.

FUCK THEM because they represent such a small (less than 1%) piece of the pie it makes no sense to have almost twice the file size as necessary videos to satisfy such a small slice.
It does more harm than good to do what you are saying.

Examples:

It's a fact that if you have 2 identical quality clips of wmv and mpeg that the WMV will be much much smaller in file size. (almost half)

So that means a dial up user loves them much more because it drastically reduces his download time.

Also for cheap dsl users can stream/ play without much buffering if any.

Saves a lot of B/W

Delivers the product to the customer faster.

I can keep going.......

Exception: If the members area is all mpg then by all means use mpg promos.

yeah, most MGP gallery submitters and MGP sites prefer MPEG movies over WMV. Luckily most of my sponsors don't mess with wmv

Using the word "most" is stretching it a bit but I'm sure there are some MGP owners and submitters that are still ignorant to the advantages and superiority of .wmv over .mpg.

The largest sites out there accept them with no issues what so ever. For several years now. It's time to get with the program.

I agree... it's some strange sort of club webmasters have that says they "must use mpegs"... that's quite outdated thinking. WMVs are king and Flash video will soon follow. Notice a little site called google is only showing Flash video now? video.google.com

I love mpegs, they are fantastic to look at, but not reasonable any more.

The problem with Flash is the lack of decent codecs. not to mention the fact that a surfer cant just double click a swf file and watch it.

I think the main reason google went with flash is the simple fact they wanted to build a DRM platform to work off and what better way to beta test than with a wide open system showing viral videos.

Just my 2 cents though ;)

I offer both, mpeg and wmv. Since the member is already a paying customer, I think he deserves a full comfort, BW is almost for free when we talk about members.

Kinda strange that a movie format is holding you back from promoting a sponsor.. There's tons of tools for you to use, so you can convert from avi/wmv/whatever to mpeg..

I use Boilsoft ASF Converter for wmv -> mpg

Only sponsor with a clue is Bang Bros Online. They offer both WMV and MPG with full members area video clips and pics to work with. That is heaven for an affiliate who creates his own tours and marketing material. Fuck all this RSS feeds and blog entries shit, all some need is CONTENT and link codes.
