actually ducati is ok. very nice light weight good handling bike. the dry clutch is a little different feel than wet clutch, and if you are riding mostly in urban area i would recommend one less tooth on CS sprocket to make your starts from a dead stop smoother.
i have a 98 ST2 and a hayabusa, and the duc is just as reliable as the suzuki.
make sure you change the cam belts every 10K or so, and if you are not handy have your dealer shim the valves, change your oil every 2-3k miles.
truth is the monster is very reliable if you maintain by the book and don't abuse it. some gal won a "ironbutt" rally on one and i think she put like 80K miles on hers before it was totaled in an accident.
wear your helmet and ride defensively, best to run with loud pipes because it alerts vehicles in next lane that you are there.
good luck. ducatis are chick magnets.
