Can anybody help with this problem? Need to install "standard vga drivers"

I recently updated my ati mobility radeon 900 video card but new drivers made my system crash. So i wanted to install an older version of the drivers but now no matter what i try, every ati driver i try to install it tells me to install a standard vga driver first.

I can't seem to get this done. Any help would be appreciated.

That sucks. It seems that these companies are putting porducts out, with drivers and software that have never been tested. Hope someone helps you.

      "Systeemherstel" is your friend.

      Bureau-accessoires > Systeemwerkset

I'm guessing you have dutch windows too.

That is strange....When it does not work like you said, what if you uninstall your ati driver in "apparaatbeheer" and restart windows...It will probably select the default Windows XP driver for ATI, and you are ready to go...

Advice for the next time, why update a VGA driver, when it works Especially ATI drivers are horrible...Nvidea drivers seems to be more stable...

Goto your device manager, remove all display adapters. Reboot.

Those driver thingies are a real hassle. I installed a new fax-copy-laserprinter from HP this weekend took me 6 hours to get the drivers installed. Ok machine wasn't really meant for Win98 but still. Google should help you Franck, keep rebooting untill your pc gives in.

buy nvidia is the bets solution

all kidding aside though. if you uninstall the device, windows should assign it its own basic drivers.

maybe try booting into safe mode after you uninstall the device. does safe mode still exist in xp?

also, try uninstalling the device then immeadiately install new drives without reboot.

                      those are my best guesses.

oh it should reinstall the standard VGA drivers from the xp source... try to right click, uninstall driver, then remove the item, then reboot.

Yes but the machine makes some nice laserprints now.

I would remove the ati folder from C drive and install the original software again.

First remove the ati driver software trough configuration panel ----> software.
                            remove the folder from C
                            Reboot
Install the orginal software from the CD again
                            reboot again

FIXED! I'd tell you guys how if i knew how. Endless amounts of reboots, uninstalls, installs, updates etc etc.

Took me the whole evening, what a waste of time.

                                Thanks for the help!
