    If you went to jail for life

    would you really want your life spared? Even if you were innocent.

    I always hear about people getting life in prison and doing everything they can to spare their lives.

    Not me. Seriously. Send the voltage. Only so much basketball and crowded showers I can take.

                          I've been hearing the stuff about Peterson and apparently the cell, treatment, etc. he gets on death row is better than in gen pop. And like you said, I'd rather die than live in jail for the rest of my life.

                          I guess they want life in jail on the chance they will be exonerated.

                                                          #1 - It's not like if you are on death row you get bolted a week later ... depending on what state you may be there for the rest of your life. And life on death row is far worse than anywhere else (try living in a block with guys who literally have nothing to lose by stealing your cheesecake!)

                                                          #2 - Basketball will be the one activity you'll enjoy.

                                                          #3 - Any life is better than no life. Ok, almost any life.

                                                          But I gotta agree, life in prison would seriously suck, innocent or not, death row or general population. Suck.

                                                                                              Peterson isnt on death row, he has yet to be sentenced. And if/when he is on death row how would anything be better? Death row inmates spend 23 hours a day in a small cell usually without any type of window and no darkness, meaning lights are on 24 hours a day. Sounds like wonderful treatment to me.

                                                                                                          People get falsely convicted all the time. Especially in a high profile murder case like Peterson's.. and one where a pregnant women was the victim none-the-less.

                                                                                                          The former governer of Illinois recently conducted clemency hearings on all death row inmates after 12 inmates were exonorated in one year. After finding that a sufficiently large number of defences were able to introduce reasonable doubt in their trials he commuted all sentences.

                                                                                                          The investigations are usually rushed. People have promotions and jobs on the line. There's a lot of pressure to solve the case. Juries feel a duty to deliver justice to the family of the victim.

                                                                                                          Prosecutors are supposed to be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a defendant committed murder, but human emotion usually gets in the way of the verdict.

                                                                                                          I don't have an opinion on Scott Peterson. I don't believe that he's innocent nor guilty, since I didn't follow the case. But of course he'd want to cling to any chance that new evidence will surface that will exonorate him... or new revelations such as a biased jurer or what-not.

                                                                                                          And who knows .. maybe he is innocent..

                                                                                                                          if I had life, it would be spent getting further education - then see how much I can work on parole. remember, just because they give you life, doesnt mean you cant get parolled - yet you dont have the decision as to whether you want to die or not, just feel its giving up hope - hell you maybe the one who figures out how to break out !!
