Well, here goes:
The show ofganizers are always responsible directly or indirectly (depending on circumstance) for the attendance to a show - and specifically attendance on the show floor. Over the years, more and more of the business is done in social settings, bars, private parties, VIP lounges, and what not. They are not done on the show floor because the bigger roller players and company owners go off into the private to do whatever business acts they need to do, and cannot be found. Vegas is big, babeeeeeeee, and it's easy for these guys to go away and never be seen.
Add to the deal that Vegas runs all day all night, party til noon, many many people just never make it to the show floor, just basically doing a 3 or 4 day cycle or party all night, sleep most of the day, and do again.
Miami works because everyone is in one place, and sooner or later, you will see pretty much all of the major players either on the show floor or by the pool or around the hotel.
I think AVN shifted the dates to March because even before the doors opened for this year, they realized and understood that they had made a fairly serious (but unavoidable) error moving the show onto the same dates as the video show. I have attended every IA2000 / Internext show since... hmm... Monte Carlo? Orlando? Anyway... I am not there this year, many of the people I know who attend are not there this year. I could not justify what would have been $4k to come down from Canada stay 5 or 6 days, eat, play, party, and whatnot. I am sure others are int he same boat.
Don't run away from AVN, but vote clearly and loudly with all you got: "this isn't the show we want".
