if you start off learning theory on piano it will make any other instrument you play 100x more understandable
some teachers play both and know theory ... and once you start to 'get it' its actually really cool
put same amt of time into theory as into "learning tunes" and you'll thank yourself couple years down the road - ps never too late to start!!! you are younger than you will be 10 years from now, so you are starting younger ;)
