Philips will introduce Blu-Ray this year

Just read an article that Dutch Electronics manufacturer Philips will introduce
the New Blu-Ray hardware and discs with initially 25Gb and 50Gb storage
capability. The player/recorder hardware will be introduced in the second half
    of this year.

Hollywood has got to be shitting their pants right about now. Regular DVDR's are 4.7GB, so you can't fit an entire 12GB retail DVD movie on there without loss of quality. Soon that will not the the case, and DVD trading online is going to explode.

No DVD is 12 gigs... 8.5 for dual layer media.

I won't burn normal dvds to BluRay, what a waste. I'll burn BluRay to BluRay. BluRay will be too expensive at the start anyway.

i don't think hollywood have all that much to worry about
when bluray first comes out , only the diehards will have a drive and media will be a high prices , similar to when dvd's first came out or before that cd's

by the time bluray is in reach of regular consumers hollywood would be pumping out bluray movies with a better encryption
