          Kong is King

Yeah I saw it and it just plain rawks the world.

Skull Island is awesome, and to whoever said that they didn't want to watch some CG effects romp around... it's way more than that.

I'm an effex geek and I'm telling you I just forgot I was watching effects; that's the difference between watching a bad kong and a good kong: they imbued their effect with character. You forget and get sucked in - that's something that hasn't happened to me since Star Wars came out - you don't think about "how'd they do that??" until the movie is OVER.

Damn i'd pay double-price to see this one (actually, I did - brought my seven year-old and four old girls to see it and they loved it - three hours and they didn't budge an inch).

But whoever thinks this is a love story?? Isn't that a little sick? I mean I never saw this as a love story, it's a boy-and-his-dog, Old-Yeller type a thing.

Born Free, lassie, you know - how humans connect with simpler, companion (and esp wild) animals, often learning more humanity from a beast than from the humans around them, etc..., blabla ... love story? Maybe. Romance? Wtf?

I found the movie very boring.

The special effects were masterful, but they are so common (and obvious) these days that it takes a lot more to entertain.

I'll take ET over KK any day.

I couldn't agree with you more. It wasn't a love story in the man-woman sense (or in Brokeback Mountain's sense, man-man ). Anyone who loves animals or has a dear pet can immediately relate to King Kong. Yes Kong rampages and kills some people but he's an innocent acting out of instinct, not like a cold blooded killer who is human. And you're right, it is all about connecting. Thats what silverback gorillas do and is most important to them, the social connections they make so they can survive. Thats what happens between Kong and Ann really. Kong is this desperately lonely creature, the last of his kind (did you catch his wife/mate's skeleton in the movie?) living and surviving daily on this brutal island, and he makes this connection he is so desperate for with Ann. But us humans and our greed and our need to control end up being Kong's undoing.

And that message is true; sometimes when we make ourselves vulnerable, we get hurt or killed (emotionally usually), but we do it anyways because we need to.
