go to a guitar store look around to see what they have, find something toward the low end that you like and feels right...then find it used and cheaper on ebay or a used guitar place, along with an amp...guitar, tuner, amp, pics, new strings, cord for under $500...then a few years later if you are still playing you can upgrade
suggestion, when you are learning, find some guitar tablature sites and play along with some of your cds, that used to take hours of my time
