How to Dispose of CRTs Monitors???

So .. just replaced 2 17'' CRTs with 2 24'' LCDs... some years ago I gave away some CRT monitors to a friend who wanted them (15 inch crts ... in 2002 I guess) .... but now I dunno what to do with these 2 50+ pound behemoths....

I know I can't just throw them in the trash because of environmental yada yada... so do I just put them next to the dumpster and WM takes care of them? or do I have to take em to some recycling facility? I see I was charged a "recycling fee" on the 2 new lcds I got so I am thinking WM can take care of em? right?

Since this is GFY.... lemme say.. NO!! I won't put them up my ass... I know thats an acceptable recycling method for some ppl here... so just had to eliminate "that" as an option....

Do a search on your city website. It varies from place to place.

in Vancouver i'd either take it to the computer shop (i think) or the dump (sure), for an environmental fee

List them for free on Craigslist http://losangeles.craigslist.org/zip/
put them out on the curb and in 2 hours they will be gone.

Put them in the back of the pickup. Put the tail gate down. Drive down a gravel road. Stop, put the truck in reverse and floor it. Hit the brakes. Drive away.

Some great ways to destroy CRTs fo sho! lol.... I think I found the city website with info about it

                  http://www.ciwmb.ca.gov/Electronics/WhatisEwaste/

... I also checked the WM site which is the company that takes care of the trash but they only refer to "e-waste in san diego" ... I'll give em a call on monday and ask em about it....

                  If nothing else works then:

Put them out with the regular trash.

In most places that's still legal / tolerated.

Teh ghey is spot on about CraigsList - post them for free with a title such as "Curb Alert! 2 Free Working CRT Monitors" or something like that a day or so before the next trash pickup. If they're gone, great .. if not, no biggie just move them to over to / into the dumpster.

The environmental stuff is way exaggerated. And anyways, if the government is so damn concerned, why do they nickle and dime people to dispose of stuff; government is supposed to serve the people ... opps, I forgot, only the super-rich, but I digress.

Anyways, do craigslist and then trash.

look under recycling in the phone book, in most cities there will be private recyclers that want them and most will pay you for it..$5-10 a monitor around here.
they take all kinds of electronics, they remove gold, platinum, etc from the circuit boards and cpu's,
A local youth sports team raised a little over $1,100 in about 3 weeks doing this

call your recycling center (# in paper they send with trash pickup schedule) they will tell you when to put it out or bring it yourself to the nearest one - thats how its done in NJ at least.
