big affiliates might give you big cash payouts and more bonuses but small less-saturated ones bring in more sales and long term sign ups its good to have a mix of both.
Where possible try and get a website to plug your link rather than trying to force your way onto their topsite or referrer list.
I have to agree with that 'build what your users want' too..
