No offence intended to a fellow Aussie but it doesn't sound like you have put much thought into this plan at all.
For starters, you don't just apply for a work visa and even making enquiries you have now alerted Immigration that you intend to work/live here so have probably ruined your chances of getting even a tourist visa to check it out for a few weeks months. If you have a degree and special skills or lots of money to invest and lots of money to spend on a lawyer, you might get a limited temporary work visa in several months/years. If you already have a tourist visa, you will have to answer the "have you ever applied to immigrate" question and may get turned back at the airport
As for marrying a US citizen, that's marriage fraud and will get you deported for several years. Since you may not get a tourist visa now, you will have to arrange a marriage from AU and stay married here for 3 years, show proof you are living together etc etc etc.
Why do you want to live in US anyhow and have you spent much time here before?
