    The Kids Were Ecstatic

    From Today's Rambling:

If you don't know what the hell I'm talking about read the last part of the post I made on December 23rd.

Instead of doing the drop and run, as planned, I ended up taking my son with me and knocking on the door. I wanted my son to experience a sense of helping others during a time of need, gracefully. The door opened, the children saw the large box of presents I was carrying and they screamed so loud with happiness that Belinda, who was waiting in my truck with the doors shut and windows closed, could hear them clearly.

Before I go on I must tell you that a few of my fellow "pornographers" chipped in when they read my blog entry. They asked for my PayPal address and immediately sent money. Their support was greatly appreciated, and even my very-religious-ex-wife was touched by their generosity.

I didn't give their mother the opportunity to be embarrassed or feel bad. I simply stated to all the children: "Santa gave me a call. He wanted to deliver these himself but since you don't have a chimney for him to slide down he asked me to bring them to you instead."

Each of the 4 children received 3 packages to open, and their mother was given a Visa Gift Card as well.

                      You did a nice thing...

Do you really need to blog about it (multiple times) and yap about it for 3 days on GFY?

Here -- I'll give you the approval you are so desperately seeking:

Donnie, you are the greatest thing since sliced bread. I hope my children grow up to be as good and as giving as you are. The world is a better place because you were born.

Your "hey everyone, look at me, I'm such a sensitive great person" posts are sometimes fun to read when they provide useful lessons for people.

Be careful though, because at times your prideful self-esteem postings border on egotistical self-aggrandizement.

Broke, I can see how you might think that, but the first entry was to challenge others to do the same, and it resulted in people from this board chipping in to help. Success, don't you think? The second was to tell the people who read the first entry, as well as those who chipped in, what happened.

That's fair... like I said, you did a good thing.

I'm not the only one that thinks you've been a little to caught up in self-aggrandizing, though. Blog entry, post about the blog entry, post about how you stuck it to an ex and showed her how good pornographers can be (linking to the post about the blog entry), second blog entry, post about the second blog entry...

                                  Did I miss anything?

I'm honestly glad you did it and I understand you not dinging and running to teach your son a lesson.

But if you really wanted to do something anonymously (as indicated by the first blog entry and first two posts), why not do it anonymously?

Easy answer there: my ex-wife and I talked a lot about it. She's been helping this particular neighbor out in many ways. She told me that if I did it anonymously the neighbor would just think it was her anyway, so I might as well take my son and, if asked, tell her where the gifts came from and how my friends chipped in to help. That way my son gets to learn a valuable lesson and the neighbor gets to hear that complete strangers wanted to help her.

So, that's what I did. And I think it's better this way.

NIce job man. Helping others also helps ourselves whether it be genuine of for "self_agrandizement" as someone put it. What ever the reasons its all good
