    Rear projection TVs?

The viewing angle is horrible, you have to be directly in front of the TV to be able to watch.

But if you're in front of it, the huge screen size and 1/4 of the cost of the plasma, make it an attractive buy.. What do you think?

Or should I go with a regular 38" HDTV? The 38" CRT HDTV costs the same as the 49" Rear Projection

i picked up a 62" rear projection from someone for $500 because they were moving and didn't want to deal with it. you're right, the viewing angles suck unless you are on the couch right in front of it, but i don't think i could ever go to a smaller tv now that i am used to the big screen.

Not all of them have that same problem go to Bestbuy and check out the screens from different angles and you will see that there are some with filters that fix this problem...

I have a 55" Mitsubishi rear projection 1080HDTV. There are a few spots in the room where you lose the brilliance of the picture, but for the most part it's tight as hell. The worst part about the TV is the glare from the windows. You have to angle the fucker strategically

Price compared to headaches? It's not that bad. I would definitely buy another projection. Good luck with your decision

I've always been happy with my 61" RCA rear projection TV. Would be nice if it had composite video, but its 6 years old anyway.

                        I have a 60"Hitachi Super Ultravision and a Sony 48" big screen.

I paid $1850 (Canadian) for BOTH of them combined.

I am not complaining a bit

when I worked for Sega we used rear projection for some of the big games (like sega rally, Lost world, etc), now these moitors were £3000 compared to the standard rear projection TV price of £1000. We had no real problems with viewing from all angles, I guess you get what you pay for

CRT's are better in quality than projections any day. But bang-for-the-buck wise projections are better than CRT's

so do you want bang-for-the-buck or quality it all depends on you.

                                  BTW:
DLP rear projection >>>>>> LCD rear projection >>>> standard rear projection
