you can take this for what its worth.... not an attorney but been through it many times. first, immigration law is largely a scam if there is not a specific legal problem that warrants legal representation.
either there is another approach... which can be explained to you in a 10 minute consultation or you can file to adjust your status or you can't. if you can, all you have to do is fill out the forms and send them in. otherwise an attorney is going to fill them out for you for 5-10K. i doubt there is any middle ground. you can read about the visa and its limitations and what you can and cannot do and then just fill out and file the forms and send them in.
