Fuck that. I use 1600x1200 on my new 19" monitor. I used to use 1024x768 on my previous 17"Sig too big -
I always test my sites in 800x600 to make sure they look ok.
They're primarily designed for 1024x768 and up but if the site is completely unusable in 800x600 I fix it.
I don't think too many people who use 1024x768 keep their browser maximized anyway.. so adhering to 800x600 is still a good standard.Comment

I design for 800x600. Even if you have higher resolution, there's usually toolbars, tabs, sidebars and other misc crap crowding out the actual browser window. Nobody browses in kiosk mode that I know of.email: [email protected]Comment

I'd say the standart is 1024x768 !UUGallery Builder - automated photo/video gallery plugin for Wordpress!

I still use 800X600. I have a 17 in CRT and 1024X768 looks to small to me. Besides most sites are designed for 800X600 anyways. Anything higher and you get lots of empty space. When I have to start scrolling to the side on most sites then I'll switch.
I do recognize though that most surfers are using higher than 800X600.Comment

you heard it straight from the surfer's mouth.Originally posted by DogsandBigCats

My stats are about the same as everyone elses. Around 25% still using 800x600, and of course I still design with 800x600 in mind.NICHE MONEY >> Ass Worship • Panties • Solo Teen • Pantyhose

PC manufactuers, software designers and programmers are constantly pushing the barrier and make programs/hardware faster and more intensive.. why not push the envelope with adult too? force the users to go higher res, it only benefits the industry!Comment

ehm that's not gonna work, if you force a surfer he will simply move on to the next site....Originally posted by d00t

Most designs still cater to it. I think at least 25% of users use that setting. I just don't understand it. It's SO huge. The letters and everything on the screen. I have my monitor set at 1280x960. Can't stand anything else. It allows me to view designs for 800x600 nicely and just about every other design.Comment

This guys got the right ideaOriginally posted by Stephen
I like to design my sites for 800x600, and use JavaScript to sniff surfers when they enter. Got a higher res? You'll get a left hand navbar. Got a REALLY high res? You'll get a right hand bar with sponsor upsells as well.

you should always design for 800x600, even on higher resolution people dont surf maximized, its just another window on their screen.

I like the way things(and web sites) look at 800x600 best even with a 21 inch monitor. When working with programs like Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash, etc. I'll up it so I have more room for palettes. MultiRes is a nice program to quickly switch between resolutions. I design for 800x600 to suit most surfers and to suit myself since I think sites look better filling the frame and without a lot of borders and shit around them.Last edited by Mr. Mojo Risin; 11-25-2004, 05:32 AM.Comment

ditto.... I like frame filling sites just like I like full screen dvds vs widescreen with bordersOriginally posted by MickeyG

the guy was saying if we all make the switch, so the next site he moved too would also be a big screen design.Originally posted by Mefo

Of course everything is HUGE and that's good. I don't want to have to squint to read everything. Maybe if you had a 19 in CRT or 18 in LCD or larger in can see why you may want a hgher resolution than 800X600. Otherwise 800X600 is fine by me.Originally posted by Mike33
