Spent all day today not working for a change and decided to relax and went shopping.

Is it just me or does it seem this year retailers have encouraged their employees to be extremely engaging and friendly with the customers. Usually you have to go looking for someone to help you now its the exact opposite.

Every store I went to I got pounced on continuously.

Worst place for this "harrassment" is at any large furniture store. Not only do you get mobbed multiple times by the same person. Each time you walk into a new department, someone else is waiting for you.

i hate it too. leave me alone to look for stuff, a good retailer should just have people around so that when u do have a question or need help somebody is nearby. nobody has ever 'sold' me a thing - never bought something because some high school dork with his name on his shirt finessed me into buying something i didn't intend to buy.

Fucking funny. They were doing that to me at Circuit City. I had picked up an extra AC cord for my PDA and was carrying it around while I continued to shop and it seemed like they thought I was going to pocket it. So then I got pissed and played with them and did the look around like you see on cops when they show the security cams watching shoplifters turning their heads constantly to see if anyone is around.

I really notice it going back as a "foreigner", even though I was born and raised there.

95% or more of sales staff are extremely friendly and helpful but not in a robotic, monotone way.

They act like they actually love their jobs. They talk to you like you are old friends and just hanging out.

It's the damn commissions they're being paid, as soon as they can show they talked to you before your purchase the sale is theirs.

A local sporting goods chain has two types of stores, one with commission employees and one without. Shopping at the stores that don't pay commissions is so much more relaxing.

the other day i went to target to buy some shampoo and stuff and this security guy kept following us around the store. He was hidding behind alses, acting like he was shopping if i suddenly stopped or stood still we would catch em watching us .

Aggravated the hell out of me, I think next time I will complain to the manager. I dont goto a store to be spied on while I shop.
