Payrollpete,
I totally agree. If you are offering trial of any price or length, make sure you have the content to back up your content claims and retain your members. That is the key to success in this biz especially if are paying for your traffic.

WTF is an achahahahas?????????????????????????
Mitch, third party processing is the safest game in town for anyone who plans to go on to something else eventually. Regardless of what your friend marky(who hasn't been back mind you) said about merchant accounts, the fact does remain that merchant accounts for high volume processing are about the stupidest thing you can do.
After all, you lose one, you are now ineligible basically for ANY sort of processing once the cc's delve into your business and figure out who you are.
This is adult, why not just do third party? With the margins still as good as they are if you are smart, it would be stupid to put your own credit and identity on the line.
Yes, I realize we have submerchant verification coming, but that's still nowhere near the same thing.
before you say anything about getting own merch accts, we do have them, so I know what's involved and what it takes, from upfront to fees to penalties.

Two trials at the same time is holly shit, not for serious guys. Still go with CCBill and Ibill (down for now). Yes, I have some personal offers from Epoche but we'll switch to it when you run 30 min pay trials, maybe another 6 years you need for itOriginally posted by Epoch
OK let me clear the confusion on how this product works:
Step 1 X min free preview
- X can be 30 minutes or longer
Step 2 converts to paid trial at X minutes
the paid trial can be
- 1 day or longer
- $1.00 or more
Step 3 converts to recurring membership
- converts to your monthly price
***Surfers ARE NOT sent to a page asking if they want to continue. The conversions occur behind the scenes like normal trials do.
If you have additional questions please contact support.

I just called ccbill to ask about submerchant verification. the customer service guy said that he would transfer me to sales and I got a voice mail. I don't EVER recall being transferred to voicemail in my whole time dealing with them.
Now I'm starting to get concerned. Time to make some travel arrangements and enroll in this continuing education spanish course.Comment

Calm the f*** down everyone?.
And leave KK alone. She?s out of processing and in the money end of the business now and probably damn glad too!
Clay is too busy to post, so he asked me to reply and answer serious questions.
The question seems to be: What is sub-merchant registration?
The short answer is: A new Visa International rule (that means worldwide, all Visa regions) effective November 2002, requiring Payment Service Providers (PSP?s) like Epoch, iBill, CCBill, Jettis, WebSiteBilling, etc to provide to their acquiring bank and to Visa the names of all the url?s we process transactions for - through our Merchant Account. The list will also contain company names and the names of the owners of the company?s.
Yes, Big Brother is watching, even closer now. But this is not bad news, all around. Epoch, for example, has been doing this for over a year. If you are with us, you are cool. I don?t know about the other processors, but presumably the same will apply.
If, however, you are on the Death Penalty List or the chargebacks and credits of your business are partly responsible for putting a PSP over the chargeback and credit ratios of Visa, then you may be toast. If you have been TMF?d in your own Merchant Account, depending on your PSP, you may or may not be able to process credit card transactions in the future. Some, not all, PSP?s may have the ability to rehab problem sub-merchants.
All the talk earlier on this thread about how chargebacks are going to skyrocket, etc because of our ?X? minute trials? is just funny. Think people? We have to maintain the ratios. If we don?t we are toast. So why would we do anything to jeopardize our Merchant Account? Trust me Mitch? high volume accounts are not laying around. Low volume accounts will be all but gone in November if the other rules are enforced, like the $100 million in Tier 1 Capital requirement. That rule alone knocks out 97% of all banks on the planet. The obvious ?players? in accepting Merchant?s in the high-risk categories are not up for this reporting either. So, in my humble opinion, folks better get with a processor, stay there and hope that the processor can run a smooth technical operation and report accurately, every time to Visa ? from this day forward.
No, the sky is not falling ? for everyone - but it is for some.
I will stay around to answer other questions, if I can, for a while this afternoon.

So in other works Visa wants the ability to blacklist the webmasters with high chargebacks? And the webmasters would be tracked by name/company/url no matter which processor they're using?
Do they also get a look at the personal info, such as social #'s etc?Gtalk and email :: sd at tabu.comComment
-
They will get url / company name / contact name for sure. We are not sure if they will want or ask for EIN (Employer ID numbers for US Corps) or SSN's for individuals. We are just not sure what they will require when it comes to November. The Visa and MC rules are always the subject of much interpretation. Bottom line: We just don't know everything that is required.Originally posted by SunTzu

If you are a client, email me: [email protected]. I will resolve your issue, if any, in 30 seconds. But I can't for the life of me understand why you would not use your name if you are missing a check.
But let's at least agree to try and keep this board positive. There are good points posted here by, people trying to learn (me included) and the flaming is just a waste of time. Fun, but a waste of time.

From what I understand from some digging on this, each registration will be for $500 payable by the webmaster, or processing company if they value you enough (small players in trouble).
Another rumble says that as the website descriptor will be passed along with the transaction it's gonna appear on the customer's statement as
Epoch / xxx.com
or whatever. I'm going to make a few calls tomorrow and see if this is true.
I don't believe you'll need a $100m bank to get a merchant account, but you certainly will to get a PSP/3rd party one. I wouldn't be surprised if Visa stops all adult processing except via registered gateways and PSP compliance checking companies within six months either way. So as Epoch says, pick a good processor who's on the ball and hold tight.Comment

Willow: The $500 per sub merchant is right, from Visa to their Member Banks. Member Banks are already saying they are marking this up tom $650, for ?administrative costs?. EPOCHS has not made a decision as to whether or not we will pay this or pass this along. It is a BIG number for us, as you can imagine. We are still trying to negotiate some of these new rules, so who knows at this point?Originally posted by willow

As for the $100 million, this is cast in stone for any Acquiring Bank that wants to accept MCC 5967 (high risk video text) transactions. If the bank does not have this amount of Tier 1 Capital, then Interchange will not allow these transactions to be settled.
I also agree that the direction is all through a few pipes, owned by PSP?s. This is no different than Audio Text 10 years ago. The same Visa people are writing these rules for our space. They believe that it is better to allow their cardholders to buy what they want with their Visa cards (acceptance being the issue) but control who can touch that card number. We agree. We feel that this business is a science, not an art form and that it takes serious capital, infrastructure, etc to stay in compliance. All of the big guys (EPOCH, iBill, CCBill, etc.) will be able to play in this arena. The little ones that come and go every month or two are not going to be able to hang, imo.
