Jesus, it's basic fucking physics! When the paper is folded it has very sharp edge (figuratively speaking) that contacts the pencil. The shape of the folded paper creates an aerodynamic shape and the swing is creating more and more energy as its speed increases.
When the paper's sharp edge strikes the wood pencil (which we all know is one step up from balsa wood) all of the energy generated from the swing escapes through the strategically placed crease in the paper and breaks the pencil! It's basic physics 101.
