I think it's definitely both depending on the day. Personally I like visual alot, but there are days when I prefer just closing my eyes and going to a "Happy Place".
I think a hugely underused form of erotica is the audio stroy, Penthouse style. I love just turning the speakers up and letting my mind's eye get visual. (And I think I've said to much already!)
