Does the PS3 stand a chance against the Xbox 360?

By the time the PS3 comes out, the Xbox 360 will be ready for its first (or maybe second) major price cut. So, by that time, the PS3 will be like twice as expensive as the Xbox 360. So, basically, by the time the PS3 comes out all the people who are eager for the next generation in gaming will already have bought the 360, everybody who will have waited for the PS3 will have to decide between the then cheap 360 and the very expensive PS3, and all broke fuckers are pretty much forced to go for the 360.
Seems to me like the only people who will buy a PS3 are the hardcore gamers who buy both consoles, and the people who really don't want the 360.

Unless something major goes wrong with the Xbox (much bigger than the current crashes), I wouldn't buy Sony stock anytime soon

PS3 will recieve just as much, maybe more hype as the Xbox 360 is getting.. and given the time sony have taken and what they have shown so far it will be technically superior to the xbox.

I don't know why people rival them against each other, both will be great fun.

You're right about the hype it will get. But don't forget, the majority of people think a few hundred dollars for a game console is huge, and will not buy a new one within a year if the "old" one still works well. The people fighting for consoles in video stores get a lot of attention, but I don't think they are representative for the general customer base.

For the people who won't have bought the Xbox yet when the PS3 comes out, the technical superiority of the PS3 will have to justify it being twice as expensive. I don't know if that will happen...

Look at the latest sales reports of Sony to see what I mean, Samsung among many others and beating the shit out of Sony when it comes to electronics (outside consoles ;) )

The Nintendo system is gonna be interesting to see indeed. I believe they are aiming to tap into an even more different market than they do right now, which would move them oout of the way of MS and Sony. Probably a smart thing, too.

The PS2 had the "killer app" quality, by also being a DVD player when DVD players were generally more expensive than the PS2. Maybe the same will go for the BluRay planned for the PS3, but I don't know how likely it is that people will want something new after DVD so soon.

How can they have a trailer on a system that isn't finished? They all show what you "might" see at the shows and TV but they never end up like that. It's all fluff. Sure Sony has a big fan base but they are definately missing out by launching late.

Me too. I might buy a 360 though, if the release date for the PS3 has really been pushed back to the end of 2006, as has been recently rumoured. Since I don't game enough to justify buying two systems, that would probably mean I won't buy the PS3.

PS3 will not be technically superior.

But to stick with the thread, it's following from the PS2 alone will probably keep it in the lead. It's honestly all about the games; who has the best ones, and which system has the exclusive titles.
