Getting to know the industry

So it should be really obvious that I am new and haven't a clue how to get started. I have some questions. My questions revolve around what are people's experiences are with the different ways to get started. I've been doing some lite researching and have found that there seems to be two main ways for getting a site up and start making some cash money.
The first way for getting start (that I have found) is to get a colocated server and buy some content, or sign up as a Webmaster on an affiliate program and use their content. Either way, you need to have your own server - which means more effort for you to manage the server and to keep a watchful eye on services being hosted on your server.
The next way that I have discovered is to sign up to a program, and let them host your site and you pick the content that you want to push. Some of the programs that I have been looking at are SilverCash, PornAccess, PureCash, YourPaySite. All of these programs have their advantages and assets. The one that makes me curious here is YourPaySite.com. They are the only ones that I have seen (so far) that offer a pre-built website, domain names, content, and a wide range of tools/materials for getting started. The thing is that you have to pay them a monthly fee (9.95 on up). It would seem that the only thing I have to do is the advertising/marketing - and they claim they can help me with that too.
Does anyone have any experiences with these programs? What kind of payouts are you seeing and how about the support you that they promise? What are the advantages and disadvantages to the programs vs running your own server?
Anyone that can offer any kind of insight to these questions or point me to some more research and information - I would be very greatful. Thank you in Advance, and I look forward to you responses.
