Turns out, migratory birds (specifically, ducks) have managed to pick up strains of avian flu. Not necessarily the partially human-specific H5N1 strain, but still a form of avian influenza.
Still, it's pretty damn unlikely that it's going to get here. For this virus to cross over you basically have to eat/sleep/shit/live/fuck birds 24/7. Last I heard, the most contact we have with birds up here is either feeding them in parks or eating them with lemon pepper and a side of rice.
That suggestion about the powerball ticket is a good one.
