The backbone will cut you some slack for a week or two....but then they'll demand the domain down because it's a "solution" for them since it's stops complaints going TO THEM.
Oh yeah a sponsor like ARS or CE could easily be shut down this way

.....their cc processor would probably burst faster than their backbone though.
The current anti spam menality is part of the problem too....it's very flawed and it's pretty much gulity until proven innocent.
